From rich clay-like reds to warm earthy tones, terracotta paint is a key colour for bringing a rustic aesthetic to a room. With roots in Morocco and the Mediterranean, it’s a timeless colour. Choose flat matt and use as an accent colour or if you’re feeling bold, or terracotta colour drench the entire room. Style with organic, natural accessories that are full of texture, to add some much needed warmth and cosiness to your home this winter.
Below I’ve highlighted my pick of the earthy wall colours out there.

1. Red Earth No.64 – Farrow and Ball
Deep and pigmented with a dark reddish tone, No.64 is a true matt terracotta from Farrow & Ball. This is more of a BOLD terracotta and they recommend this in a smaller room, it would be perfect for colour drenching a small space.
2. Red 03 Matt – Lick
Described by Lick as ‘Warm terracotta with notes of pink and brown’ this is actually a paint I’ve chosen for one of my rooms. I’m in love with the chalky matt and ever so slightly pinkish finish, it’s a little more subtle and less vibrant than the Farrow and Ball, perfect if that’s the look you’re going for.
3. Baked – Coat
Of all the warm wall colours, this is a soft matt terracotta paint that’s again a little more muted, but with beautiful warm brown hues, paired perfectly here in a dining room with lots of natural wood and greenery.
4. Dusky Clay – Dunelm
A Matt emulsion from Dunelm, (yes Dunelm!) that’s a little lighter in colour and peachy in tone, perfect for a bright yet cosy bedroom.
5. Tuscan Terracotta – Dulux
We couldn’t not included tried and tested Dulux, a brand that’s just an absolute staple.
